Plan Form - LINEAR
SHORT LENGTH IN A HEDGE. IN 1960 THERE WAS A SUBSTANTIAL DITCH & THE FIELD ON THE N SIDE WAS SLIGHTLY RAISED. BY 1983 THE DITCH HAD BEEN FILLED IN & WAS UNDER THE LAWN OF JADEWOOD. BANK STANDS C.2M IN HEIGHT & IS WOODED. GARAGE BUILT OVER SITE OF DITCH END (B1-2).
SCHEDULED. SAM 35342/02 (B2).
The excavation work proved the location, depth and width of Grim's Ditch which was shown to be 1.76m deep and 4m - 4.40m wide. The lower fills recorded early collapse or wash in, followed by a re-cut and then a gradual clay fill occuring during rainwater collection. The upper most fills are 19th and 20th century respectively (31).
