In Peter Gullands extensive study on The Toll Roads of Buckinghamshire 1706-1881 this milemarker was on The Reading and Hatfield Turnpike Road p.175. The first milemarkeres on this road were early stone ones thin plates with domed tops and 3 rounded faces may have been paid for by Lord Cecil for the "guot route" 3 of these original stones survive 2 as gateposts in Terriers one from Little Chalfont is in Chiltern Open Air Museum they predate Turnpike Road and have Hatfield at top. Replaced 50 stones in 1770 then metal posts in the early 19th century. 3 metal posts survive in Bucks. From sources 230 milemarkers were recorded in Bucks 116 remain.
