Description

Probable eighteenth to nineteenth century milepost on A404 in Amersham on Whielden Lane east of Amersham Hospital. On curent OS on south side of road as Mile Post. Confirmed by handwritten notes on OS 1" (1835 ) was in Bucks County Museum now in Centre for Bucks Studies. Museum number 43 sheet XLIII page 5 of notes. Inscription: Amersham 1 Wycombe 6. On Amersham to Hazelmere (F2) route. Recorded as not found but (on OS 1") on page F in same notes under Mile Stones [Hatfield] Chenies to Henley - " Gout Track" . Number 6 on 1" OS (1835).
