Description

Probable eighteenth to nineteenth century milestone on A4 in Taplow west of railway bridge. Recorded as present in 2001 on Milestones Society website on London to Maidenhead route national ID number BU_LB25. 42cm wide 42cm deep 67cm high on south side of road. 'Beside petrol station opposite PH on well kept grass verge'. Inscription left: MAIDENHEAD 1: front: LONDON 25: right: SLOUGH 4 .' On back can still read on right side XXV Miles to Hyde Park corner'.

Confirmed by handwritten notes on 1" OS map (1835) was in Bucks County Museum now in Centre for Bucks Studies. Museum number 52/2 sheet XLVII page 7 of notes. Inscription: Maidenhead 1. On Maidenhead East A4 (D2) route.
