Description

An article tracing the 10th century boundary of Winslow Manor notes that the long ditch is likely to have continued along the edge of the Great Horwood. The wood was known as Whitman's Grove in the 19th century and was deforested shortly after enclosure in 1841, but shape of the field line reflects the early Saxon boundary of the wood and Shucklow Common. The parish boundary now follows the straightened road (1).
