Description

GRADE II. C1900 FOR W W ASTOR BY T WALDO STORY. STONE RENAISSANCE STYLE BALUSTRADES TO A SMALL BRIDGE OVER OUTFLOW FROM A POND TO THE THAMES AND, AT RIGHT ANGLES, SIMILAR BALUSTRADES FLANKING STONE STEPS DOWN TO RIVER EDGE. BALUSTRADES MODELLED ON VI LLA BORGHESE BALUSTRADE (ITEM 3/671=CAS 440902004) WITH TURNED BALUSTERS AND EAGLES ON PIERS. THE POOL IS THE OUTFLOW OF THE MINERAL SPRING FREQUENTED AS A MINIATURE SPA IN THE EARLY C19 (B7).
